How to check a Telegram channel before buying advertising

Telegram advertising is usually paid for before results are known, so the buyer carries the placement risk. A short due-diligence check can prevent most avoidable losses. Work from observed reach and audience behavior rather than the subscriber number printed in the channel header.

Step 1. Measure observed reach

Review median views across recent mature posts and calculate ERR. This is closer to what an advertiser is purchasing than the nominal subscriber count. Exclude very fresh posts that are still accumulating views.

Step 2. Review subscriber dynamics

Look for a plausible explanation behind sharp increases or declines. A promotion, media mention, or viral post can explain a jump; a step without a visible source should increase caution.

Step 3. Check whether the audience behaves like people

Open at least 10–15 recent posts. Compare reactions, comments, and forwards with views. Human response varies by subject and format; automated activity is often repetitive, silent, or unnaturally uniform.

Step 4. Confirm audience and product fit

A clean channel can still be a poor advertising choice. Check the actual topic, language, geography, posting style, and whether the audience has a reason to care about your offer.

Step 5. Ask for first-party statistics

Request recent Telegram statistics from the administrator and compare them with public counters. The material should be current and internally consistent, not a single cropped screenshot.
